PAVILIONS

Sensory & Cultural

Concept

A Space For Culture

This cultural pavilion, located alongside the Rideau Canal aims to create a space that will facilitate a place for eating, celebrating, and gathering, while admiring the ice, snow, and lights that pay tribute to the Harbin Snow and Ice Sculpture Festival in Harbin, China. This Pavilion invokes the feeling of excitement and fascination.

The overall layout of this pavilion features two permanent white polli-brick structures and one open patio space in the summer that is filled with ice sculptures and an ice structure in the winter months. This pavilion aims to remind users that there is beauty within even the harshest of elements and there is a place for all to come and enjoy year-round.

Concept

A Space For Reflection

This sensory pavilion located along the Rideau Canal in Ottawa aims to create a quiet space for anyone to come and reflect.

With the use of natural cork as a sound absorptive material the Pavilion focuses on the theme of sensory deprivation. The curved free-flowing form is designed to calm and fascinate its users, encouraging the public to explore and experience the pavilion.

This was a group project equally designed by Haley Stirling and myself
